Enjoy playing with your kidsDo you actually enjoy playing with your kids?

This might have a “yes and no” or “it depends…” kind of answer from you.

Playing is good and usually people enjoy playing. But why aren’t we always excited when our children call us to play with them?

I love playing with my son. We share a lot of our interests so it’s not difficult to find an activity that is enjoyable by both of us. However, there’re times when I don’t get his playing mood at his first request and feel like my playing is my gift for him or even my mom obligation.

Recently on Valentine’s Day I wrote in my Spanish blog about the gifts from our kids. During my writing of the post I realized that playing should not be considered as my gift to him. I don’t need to feel better or worst mom because I spend/don’t spend time playing with my son either. Rather, it’s his gift to me that I choose to accept whenever I’m invited. I choose to go to his party and enjoy playing, and feel thankful for the opportunity. It feels great.

I’ve realized I’m more up to accept an invitation to play as a gift from my son to me than accepting to play because I’m the mom and should share quality time (sounds boring, right?)

How do you feel about your children’s invitations to play?
