My Way Into Natural Parenting

I’m a single mom to a 4 year old boy. He was born in Japan while I was a foreign student of Geography.

Having decided to come back to graduate school when my baby was only 3 weeks, I knew I needed to make sure he’d be healthy and well cared without incurring in great expenses or complicated procedures. Natural parenting practices came handy to save my sanity as a foreign student and single mom.

Wearing my 9mo baby during a trip in Japan

Although I was not breastfed nor carried myself, I’d grown surrounded by breastfeeding images and traditionally carried babies in my home country. Natural parenting made complete sense to provide me with necessary rest and mobility during the first months after birth.

So there was me, successfully carrying my one month infant to a field observation in central Tokyo. After that day, I got a boost on mother confidence –and a more comfortable carrier- and began taking my baby with me everywhere.

We’ve moved to newer stages in our mother and child relationship and our lifestyle in general: From disposable diapering to EC, from Japan to Ecuador, from carrying him to walking side by side.

Nowadays we unschool and share a dream about traveling around the world.

Mothering is fun!

About This Blog

Natural Family World is a site about Natural Family Living around the world, as experienced by different cultures and types of families.

Natural Parents tend to wonder how other cultures solve issues like carrying babies, diapering, discipline, and we surely love to listen and learn traditional and modern ways of being physically and emotionally close to our kids.  If you are that kind of parent, you’ll enjoy being around!

I’ve made a point to provide my readers with what I consider valuable and entertaining information, so that you can make your own decisions or further research.

Of course, being Ecuadorian and living closer to the South American and Hispanic cultures, I tend to write more about what I find around me. I gave birth and raised my baby in Japan, so I have some views from Japanese and Asian cultures as well.

Blogging from Quito, Ecuador Your comments and contributions are most appreciated. Just leave a comment at the end of each post or use the contact form. I’m also available for interviews, if you can deal with my Spanish accent ;)

Warm hugs from Quito, a few minutes from latitude zero.
