10 Questions To Ask Your Doctor Before Giving Them To Your Child

I’m far from being a fan of seeking medical advice. We’ve had a couple of negative experiences with my son, and personally a bunch of them. However, there are times when we feel the need of seeking a doctor. Some families visit their health care providers monthly or even more often; others every year or only in cases of severe illness.
Anyways, you might find this question list useful whenever your doctor is prescribing a medicine to your child.
- What is the name of the drug?
- What is it for?
- How often does my child need to take the drug and for how many days?
- Does this drug interact with other drugs or vitamins my kid is taking?
- What if I skip a dose?
- How long does it take before the drug starts working?
- Is it OK to stop taking the drug if he starts feeling better?
- When can I stop giving him the medication?
- Are there any side effects? In that case, what should I do if my child shows these effects?
- Is there a generic version of this drug?
Also, if possible, find out the list of ingredients and do a Google search of its dangers. If you find something strange get back to your doctor with your questions.
When you buy the drug or medication, check it and be sure it’s the right name and dosage that your doctor prescribed. If you’re not sure about anything, just ask the pharmacist or call your doctor before giving it to your child.
Finally, if your doctor isn’t willing to answer your questions to your satisfaction, consider finding another doctor.
